Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is vital to state- and nation-building. It is an accelerator of growth across sectors of development. As we are now in the 21st century, our economy and socialization, in the midst of the pandemic, is accelerated online thanks in part to ICT, particularly innovations in the world wide web, mobile communication, and artificial intelligence. This is aptly captured in this year's theme, "Onwards Through ICT: Building a Stronger Philippine Digital Economy”.
ICT is also important in government. ICT in government means promoting and developing integrated and strategic systems that are reliable and efficient. We join in the vision of improving, widening, and deepening access to public services through ICT.
We also recognized that there are certain things we need to push through ICT and not just take things for granted, such as human rights, privacy and safety, and affirmative actions for disadvantaged sectors.
